The Art of doing

There are so many times where we sit and analyze, plan and try to perfect our ideas before we implement or act on them. Paralysis by analysis. I too am soooo guilty of this. Spending far too long trying to get all the small details right, constantly reviewing, analyzing, editing “the plan” overwhelming myself by over thinking and over analyzing to the point that I procrastinate just starting. Focusing so much on how the idea or project will be perceived, thinking myself out of the very thing that would satisfy even myself. I do this with every idea I hold close to my heart, take starting this blog for example. Writing, is something that brings me so much peace, joy, and healing. Wanting to get it “just right” to the point that I will overthink myself out of just putting pen to paper, or words onto the screen. The idea of failing or not getting it right stops so many of us from even getting started.

I vowed this year to get out of my head and out of my own way. To plant the seed by simply starting, nurturing it buy honoring my gift and love of words by simply putting it out there and allowing my work to bloom into whatever it may. I can always tweak the blog and my writings, I can perfect my site and focus on SEO later. Just simply putting my thoughts and emotions out in the world to allow those who resonate to find me, find my work, whenever it happens. However, I don’t have to overthink simply starting.

We cannot fail at anything we don’t even start. Each time I’ve picked up my laptop to write, I’ve told myself over and over again JUST DO IT. Start the project, the business, shoot the content, make any and all connections just get started! Disconnecting from the outcome, and allowing myself to just start has been freeing for me. I am still a writer, even if one person or nobody reads my work. You are still a business owner, even if you haven’t figured out how to tap into your target audience, you are still a content creator, even if you don’t get hundreds of views, you are still an artist even if your work isn’t. All of these things can be true, as long as we all simply start.

Let me be clear, starting does not exempt you from later failing. Quitting, once you’ve started does not diminish your effort or worth. There is beauty in starting; the excitement you feel, the time and effort you put into your hobby or craft. The joy you feel when you get a bit of engagement or recognition. The countless minutes and hours you spend in your head versus on your craft. Getting out of your own way for yourself alone, is liberating and freeing. When the passion, love, creativity, or enjoyment disappears, or if it no longer serves you or fits where you are trying to go, then quitting may be just as liberating.

Free yourself from worrying about the recognition, the accolades, the subscribers or buyers for just a minute. Tap into the reason of WHY you wanted to do or start something. Tap into the feeling of joy and wild belief of why you like (hopefully love) whatever it is you are hesitant of starting. Ask yourself what do you have to lose in pursuing an interest. Of course money may be one of them, time (we never know how much of it we truly have of it anyway, and energy for sure. Realistically these are things we’d spend and expense against in some form anyway; so why not get out of your own way and just do it whatever that IT may be for you.
